There are so many options these days for figuring out what to do with your evening. But people are happier when they get to spend their free time enjoying themselves, in real life, with friends rather than scrolling through another app or website. I started one such website, Hooplays.com, to help people discover new live music on the spur of the moment and help musicians draw people to their shows. In working on Hooplays I realized that a lot of the time people just want straight up word-of-mouth recommendations on how to have a great evening.
Smartphones are essential tools but they’ve stolen some of the serendipity from exploring a place and discovering new things. You could spend hours on your phone trying to find the perfect restaurant, dessert spot, or trying to figure out what all those bands sound like or where you can go to just relax and catch some jazz. I wanted to bring back the magic by creating a service where real people who are passionate about the local scene could share their knowledge. So, I created Locals in the Know. Here’s to the moments and the memories!
